Wind it, play it, put it down

Why free toys still carry a 19+ label

Social casino games copy the look, sound and rhythm of real gambling. Windup Toy Shop is meant only for adults over the legal gambling age and is not aimed at anyone under 19. Age is confirmed twice: first on the banner you see on arrival, then by a tick you must give when you create your account.

Lines Humphrey will not cross

• Offering real-money gambling, or promoting it anywhere.
• Handing out prizes of real-world value.
• Selling coins or tacking in-app purchases onto the toys.
• Pointing you at gambling operators or affiliates.
• Countdowns or streaks meant to tug you back to the shelves.

A plain warning from the workbench

A free game can be set to feel generous, and it refills your balance at no cost. Real-money games do neither. A good run here says nothing about how you would fare with money at stake.

Signs the play is winding you up

• Turning the key long after you meant to stop.
• Feeling snappy or irritable when you stop.
• Reaching for the reels to escape a mood.
• Play is eating time meant for sleep, work or other people.
• Looking around for a version with real money in it.

Keeping the key in your hand

• Choose how long you will play before the first turn of the key.
• Leave the autoplay switch off.
• Put the toys down for regular breaks.
• Clear this site’s data to reset the whole toy box, or block the site in your device settings to stop for good.
